PDP convention will go on as planned – Ihedioha

Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha has assured that the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP slated for next week in Port Harcourt, Rivers state will go on as planned.

Fielding questions from newsmen Wednesday in Port Harcourt Ihedioha who was in the state to conduct ward delegate congress ahead of the national convention said Ali Modu Sheriff was not a threat to the coming national convention.

He said the party acted in line with its constitution when it dissolved the national executive led by Sheriff at its last convention in Port Harcourt.

“I was the seconder of a motion moved by Hon Austin Opara, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representstives dissolving all national officers at the last convention, the constitution says it is only the national convention that can sack the executive. Is sheriff doing any congress now.

There is a process for convention.” he said.

Continuing, he said though the party zoned the national chairmanship slot to the South West this will not in any way stop others from other region from aspiring.

The Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Wonosike Samuel who spoke to newsmen earlier dismissed allegations that governor of the state, Nyesom Wike was a sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers.

Wonosike said those behind the allegation were clearly enemies of the governor, stressing that the governor was working to ensure peace in the state and the country.

He said those who were bent on destroying the gains the governor had made in the area of security in the state were behind the mischievous allegation, , adding that they should be ignored.

“The position of the party is that our governor, Nyesom Wike has no such relationship with the Avengers.

Security operatives in the country have full profile of every governor. The story is just to tarnish the good image of the governor.

The governor is working to promote peace in the state and the country. When he came on board his first task was to provide assistance to the Police to fight crime, he gave them vehicles.

He has taken the battle against crime to the hideouts of the criminals in the state”, he said.
