PDP Chieftain commends INEC, laments hoodlum attack on Ogun voters

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections, Sikiru Mustapha, has lamented insecurity and attack on voters’ by touts in the ongoing gubernatorial and state house of assembly election in Ogun state.

Mustapha, who contested to represent Ado/Odo Ota federal constituency, in the last election, said touts are having field day threatening voters and asking them to vote a particular party.

“The security agencies are not available as I expected. Atleast, there should be witness in every polling units, to witness whatever happens. They should be able to at least know how it is, most of the Police that are available are not active and doing what is expected of them. In this part of the country, every party agents believe government is the owner of every other areas and that is the challenges we are facing. We are like orphans when it comes to election issue.”

“If the ruling party do the needful for the masses, they won’t have to deploy thugs like they did today. In the presidential election, all these challenges are not there because everybody voted for APC.

“Today, everyone decided to change their votes and there is problem everywhere, which is not suppose to be like that, you cannot be winning everyday, so that is just it, he concluded”

He, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for improvement than that of the last election.

“Today, I can see the improvements in INEC, they came around so early and the voting started immediately on time. Everywhere, the security aspects was in shambles, i have been receiving calls, which is about threat to life from the ruling party, as they are about to start the counting of votes, u will see a lot of things that will be happening any moment from now. I can see that the Election is not in their favour, the security operatives are no where to be found and it’s a major threat, everyone is facing.”

When asked where exactly the threats are, he said, “the threat is in all our polling units in Sango axis, unit 04. All polling boots in Sango, ota especially my polling units at Maltina, Leventis 08, ward 4, Unit 8, Sango.
I’m not satisfied with the security architecture, no police, no civil defence were seen on ground, nothing.”
