The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees has hailed Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed as the ‘messiah’ in addressing the ongoing challenges within the party.
Chairman of the Board, Sen. Aldolphus Wabara, led a delegation to the Bauchi Government House on Wednesday for a consultative meeting with the governor, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.
Wabara expressed the Board’s dissatisfaction with the current state of the party, stating, “We are not happy with what is happening in the party, and I don’t think Nigerians are happy either. A few months ago, this same board was ready to take action, but it was interpreted as a duplication of functions. If we had acted then, many issues could have been resolved earlier.”
“And of course you as the President the PDP has as of now, when you advised against it, we said our President has spoken. So, we couldn’t do otherwise but like the saying goes that God’s time is the best, the founders of this party know that we missed it last year, we missed it in 2019 but they have asked us to come and start early to cross the T’s and dot the i’s for 2027.
“That is why we are here. The problem in Rivers State, the problem of the NWC but we know how to address and resolve issues in PDP,” he said.
Wabara acknowledged the internal conflicts in Rivers State and the National Working Committee (NWC), assuring that the Board would work to resolve these challenges and prevent any further factionalisation within the party.
Governor Mohammed, in response, affirmed that the Board of Trustees represents the conscience of the PDP. He praised the party’s wealth of experience and expertise but acknowledged the need to reunite following recent losses.
“We must come together for the common good,” he stated.
As the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Mohammed confirmed ongoing discussions with the NWC on the critical issues facing the party.
“The governors are united in addressing these matters, and I will ensure that all conflicting voices are brought together,” he added.
This meeting followed closely after members of the National Working Committee expressed their support for the PDP Governors Forum regarding the political crisis in Rivers State, particularly between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
