Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Walid Jibrin, resigned from his position.
Mr Jibrin, who is also a former senator, announced his resignation at the PDP BoT meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
He said his decision to resign as BoT chairman is to ensure victory for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the PDP in general.
His resignation comes amid calls for reshuffling of the party’s leadership structure to balance the existing lopsidedness in favour of the north.
The former BoT chairman hails from Nasarawa State.
There have also been calls for the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign.
