Yobe State Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, has charged humanitarian and development partners working in the state to patronise indigenous contractors in the award of contracts to ensure quality execution of the projects.
Governor Buni made the appeal on Monday when he received in audience the Country Director of Qatar Charity organization, Shiek Hamda El-Sayyid.
Speaking to El-Sayyid, the Governor emphasized that it is more beneficial using local contractors who know the terrain and are used to the areas than using contractors who are alien and scared of going to the project sites.
“To avoid having your projects abandoned and scattered across the state, you should please give preference to the local contractors to ensure completion of the projects for the benefit of the communities and for you to have value for your money.
“The added advantage is that there will be a trickle-down effect of the resources injected into the projects, this will contribute to economic recovery and empowerment of the local contractors and communities who are also victims of insurgency,” the Governor said.
He commended the organization for complementing government efforts towards the resettlement, rehabilitation and recovery of Yobe communities.
“The government and people of Yobe State appreciate the Qatar organization for supporting our post insurgency stabilisation programme,” the Governor said.
He noted that government alone cannot solve the problems created by insurgency especially the destroyed infrastructure.
The Governor assured the support and cooperation of his administration to the organization to execute its projects in the State.
Hamda told the Governor that the organization is working on over 400 projects across the state.
He said the projects were aimed at providing succour to the people “to improve the lives of the people.”
The Director, said the organization has profiled over 130 orphans for economic support.
