Paralympic Games: Team Nigeria wins second medal

On Wednesday, Team Nigeria secured its second medal in powerlifting at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris, with Esther Nworgu earning a silver in the women’s 41kg category.

Earlier in the games, Eniola Bolaji had claimed a bronze medal in badminton.

Nworgu narrowly missed out on gold, which went to China’s Zhe Cui, who set a new Paralympic record by lifting 119kg. Nworgu managed to lift 118kg, earning her the silver medal.

Cui, who had previously won a silver medal at the last Olympics, led from the beginning. Nworgu started strong with a 106kg lift, putting her in second place behind Cui, who began with a 108kg lift on her second attempt.

Nworgu then lifted 112kg, but Cui increased her lead with a 113kg lift.

In the final round, Nworgu achieved her highest lift of 118kg, securing her position in second place. Brazil’s Lara de Lima finished in third place with a lift of 109kg.
