Pantami tasks NCC on effective performance

…Says critical, collaborative, analytical skills are germane to organisational growth

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami, has tasked the management and staff of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on effective performance required to mitigate emerging leadership challenges facing telecommunications sector.

Pantami who made this call on Thursday during aTwo-day retreat jointly organised Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, NCC in Abuja, said the government is committed towards improving the intellectual capacity of its employees.

He added that critical, analytical, creative, collaborative, project management, social skills are vital to effective performance.

According to him, “The reason for this retreat is to continue to support the institutions, agencies we supervise for performance improvement.

“Most of the institutions are doing well, but as the saying goes: the result of hard work is more work. Secondly we want to make sure that our today is better than yesterday and our tomorrow is better today.

“We are here to do is improve on the performance of work done by agencies, parastatals under the federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (FMoCDE), that is while the theme is ‘effective management for 4th industrial Revolution,’ particularly in respect with delivering our mandate.

“4th Industrial Revolution came up with different challenges, that requires us to continue to update ourselves intellectually, as it is said we must Learn, Unlean and Relearn.

“The Word Economy Forum (WEF), said that the skills required to be successful today, in the last five years aren’t in existence yesterday but now they are most important.

“Soft skills such as critical thinking, analytical thinking, creativity, collaborative thinking, project management skill, social skills are all vital to achieving effective management performance,” he said.

Earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta said the retreat will help in repositioning the Commission.

He emphasised that the programme will not only impact the Commission positively but also boost better service delivery to Nigerians and Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.

NCC Board Chairman, Prof Adeolu Akande, Executive Commissioner Stakeholder Management (ECSM), Barr Adeleke Adewolu, other Commissioners, senior management staff, and Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy Officials were present.

The retreat is expected to continue on Friday with the aim of revitalising NCC.
