Pantami inaugurates boards of Nigeria postal service (NIPOST) subsidiaries

In furtherance of the Federal Government’s resolve to reform the Nigeria Postal Service, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) has inaugurated two subsidiary Boards to give impetus to the current efforts  aimed at unbundling the service.

According to a press statement issued by the spokesperson to the Honourable Minister,Uwa Suleiman(Mrs) disclosed that the inaugurated Boards are; the NIPOST Properties and Development Company Limited and NIPOST Transport and Logistics Company.

Addressing members of the Boards at the ceremony, the Honourable Minister reiterated government’s committment to improving the efficiency of NIPOST “To provide highly innovative services and support the development of the digital economy by harnessing the strengths of NIPOST, particularly the spread of its offices across the country. We are positioning NIPOST to use digital technologies to address challenges and contribute to national development especially in the rural areas.”

He noted that the exponential growth of e-commerce in Nigeria and the World Bank Digital Diagnostic Report on the country has identified it as a force to reckon with in the area of e-commerce and this, therefore makes it compelling for the government to provide the enabling environment for NIPOST to thrive within the digital economy. Professor Pantami charged members of the subsidiary Boards to work harmoniously towards the common goal of repositioning the institution to achieve its overall vision.

The  NIPOST Properties and  Development Company Limited  Subsidiary Board is chaired by Abdullahi Ahmed Bappah, while Professor Abdussamad Umar Jibiya, chairs the subsidiary Board of the NIPOST Transport and Logistics Company. They are charged with,  among other functions to  formulate policies and adopt strategies to promote the development and maintenance of efficient, coordinated and economic property business.

Recall that  Professor Pantami has spearheaded the unbundling and reformation of NIPOST since it came under his supervision.
