Pantami commissions Nigerian Pavilion at GITEX 2022

…As Galaxy Backbone, 24 Startups set up exhibition stand to attract foreign direct investments

The Minister of Communications, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) has commissioned the Nigerian Pavilion at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition(GITEX) 2022 in Dubai.

The Minister led the Nigerian Delegation which had in its company, the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone ltd, Professor Muhammad Bello Abubakar BELLO and the Director General/CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Executive Vice-Chairkan of of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof.Umaru Danbatta alongside some Nigerian private sector ICT entrepreneurs, joined the Minister in formally opening the pavilion for delegates, and foreign guests, at the event.

The Nigerian delegation under the leadership of Dr Pantami is with a clear objective and mission at GITEX to network, learn, unlearn and relearn, showcase Nigerian tech solutions to the world, foster the growth of Nigeria’s ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship ecosystem, attract Foreign Direct Investment, enhance technology transfer, in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a Digital Nigeria.

According to Pantami, the conference provides an opportunity to export Nigeria’s global technological talent to the world.

The minister also disclosed that two of the Nigerian startups that were sponsored to the conference reached the semi-finals of the competition.

He said: “I am confident that the four Nigerian start-ups and innovators will surely give their foreign counterparts a run for their money and will cart away the prizes at stake, during the grand finale of the exhibition”.

According to Professor Pantami, the federal government, in the last three years launched several programmes, policies and projects that have boosted the Nigerian digital economy sub-sector. We have recorded significant milestones and great accomplishments in our bid to drive Nigeria’s economy digitally and our amazing successes are verifiable”.

Recall that earlier in the year, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) had stated in a press statement that it is sponsoring four start-ups to this year’s GITEX conference.

GITEX Global 2022 is taking place from 10-14 October, outperforming its previous edition as it hosts more than 4,500 companies and 100,000-plus attendees from 170 countries, spanning 26 halls and two million sq. ft., matching the scale of 33 football fields.

Galaxy Backbone Ltd, 24 Startups from Nigeria and some agencies of government have taken advantage of this huge investment potentials to setup an exhibition stand at the Nigerian pavilion.
