Pandemonium in Kaduna as Police clash with Shiites

There was pandemonium in Kaduna on Friday as police dispersed a procession by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shiites.

The procession was part of activities to mark the International Qud’s day.

The IMN members had gathered along the Katsina roundabout by Ahmadu Bello Way before the police arrived and tried to disperse them in a bid to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The procession created panic and fear among the residents, particularly those whose shops are located along the Ahmadu Bello Way.

Many were said to have closed their shops for fear of being caught up in the fracas.

According to the police, the IMN has been proscribed by the Federal Government and as a result, the procession was unlawful.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, explained that the IMN members came out in the morning with dangerous weapons and started attacking innocent residents in the name of procession.

“The IMN members attacked the police with dangerous weapons when they attempted to disperse them, resulting to some policemen sustaining injuries.”

He further explained that some suspects in possession of dangerous weapons have been arrested and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
