Oyo State Assembly suspends Saki East Local Government Chairman
The Oyo State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended the Chairman of Saki East Local Government, Mr Emmanuel Adedokun, following multiple allegations levelled against him.
The accusations—ranging from misconduct within his party to religious intolerance and mismanagement of funds—were detailed in a petition submitted by stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the local government area.
Following deliberations on the petition, the House formally announced Adedokun’s suspension during its plenary session.
The petitioners raised concerns about accountability, citing issues such as the whereabouts of moveable council assets, including a bulldozer, as well as the alleged deduction of 10 per cent from the salaries of political appointees.
Expressing their grievances, the petitioners stated: “We appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde’s effort in broadening our party’s reach by integrating individuals from other political affiliations.
“However, in our case, the beneficiary of this initiative has chosen to weaken the party in favour of his own faction.
“The bulldozer assigned to the local government has been missing since he assumed office, with no record of funds being remitted to the council’s accounts.
“In light of these concerns, we seek your intervention to safeguard the integrity of the PDP and protect our leaders and elders who have worked tirelessly to uphold the party.”
Acting on the petition, the House instructed the Vice Chairman of the local government, Mr Rasaq Adeyemi, to assume leadership in an acting capacity.
Additionally, the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) was directed to take over the role of Vice Chairman temporarily.
The House further mandated its Standing Committee on Local Governments, Chieftaincy Matters, and State Honours to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and report its findings accordingly.
