Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has restated his administration’s commitment to protecting the dignity of persons living with disabilities in the state.

This was just as persons with disabilities in the State appealed to the Governor to establish an agency that will directly look after their welfare and protection, while also seeking forty per cent quota in the ongoing teachers recruitment in the state.

These were revealed during an edition of Governor’s Family Meeting organized by the Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye at Olaoluwa Local Government area of the state.

The Governor, who was represented by Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, noted that people living with disabilities deserve the same right and privileges as other citizens, noting that the government would not relent in making policies and programmes that would affect their lives positively.

On his part, Mr. Rahman Rauf, the spokesperson of People Living with Disability in Olaoluwa Local Government said the consideration sought is hinged on the need to absolve their members who have excelled in their academic pursuits, even despite their glaring challenges, into the state workforce.

Rauf said, “We believe if the agency is created it will serve as a institutional mechanism of achieving a full-fledged implementation of the United Nations Convention for People Living with Disability, as it aims at promoting, protecting and ensuring the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, as well as  promoting respect for their inherent dignity.”
