Oyebanji’s wife seeks improved attention on basic education

Wife of Ekiti Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, has called for improved attention to basic education to enhance quality teaching and learning in the state.

Oyebanji made the call while speaking at a training organised by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for education secretaries and head teachers across the state, on Wednesday in Ido-Ekiti.

While describing basic education as the pillar upon which other levels of education rested, she urged education secretaries piloting the affairs of basic schools to be well-equipped for ensuring effective delivery of quality learning and teaching process.

She also called on them to engage in peer reviews on regular basis for cross fertilisation of ideas and experience sharing.

“I want to appeal to you to put in place effective mechanism for regular feedback to SUBEB from the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) through report writing and periodic meetings with the SUBEB,” she said.

Oyebanji stressed the need for the education secretaries to ensure sufficient skills in ICT for their teachers in order to boost their morals.

She also solicited for improved funding of LGEAs to enhance their functionalities.

Earlier, the SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, charged the executive secretaries not to deviate from the purpose for which they were appointed by being committed to effective monitoring of schools across the state.
