A devastating petrol tanker explosion has claimed the lives of at least 100 people and left 50 others hospitalized in Majia Village, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to the Jigawa State Police Command, the tanker, with registration number KMC 6412 F, lost control and crashed in the village, resulting in a massive explosion that engulfed the surrounding area.
The driver, identified as Yusuf Mohammad, a 32-year-old man from Kano State, was transporting petrol from Kano to Nguru, Yobe State, when the incident occurred.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shisu Adam, confirmed the incident and urged people to exercise caution and avoid scenes of petrol tanker accidents, which often result in fatal fires.
The Commissioner of Police, A.T. Abdullahi, extended his condolences to the people of Majia Town and Jigawa State.
