The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Port Harcourt Branch has elected its new executives.
Announcing the results after a keenly contested poll, the Electoral Committee (ELECO) Chairman, Comrd. Orokoto Wamina said Comrd Bernard Chukwu polled a total vote of 455 out of 812 to defeat his opponent,thereby emerging as Chairman.
The post of Vice Chairman went to Ikoku Clement, Secretary was won by Eze Chike Michael, while Akandu Justice Chituru became the Secretary, among others.
Administering the oat of office on the new executive, the Deputy National President of SSANU, South South, Comrd. Chetah Ugochukwu charged them to always put the interest of the union above their personal interest.
He urged them to be magnanimous in victory by carrying everybody along in the scheme of things to move the union forward.
The Deputy National President tasked the winners to be servant leaders instead of rulers.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after the election, the newly sworn in Chairman,Comrd Chukwu promised to carry everyone along in his administration.
He said building a befitting secretariat for the Union will top his agenda,as he moves to consolidate on his last achievements.
“You have lost today does not mean that you won’t win tomorrow,just like sports, accept the outcome of the result as good sports men and forge ahead,you. can still win tomorrow,” Chukwu charged the losers.
