Osun: Why there’s been no strike action since 2018 — JNC Chairman, Adejumo
The Chairman of the Osun Chapter of the Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Bay Adejumo, has said the management approach of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, especially towards the welfare of workers in the State, has accounted for why there has been no strike action in Osun since 2018.
Comrade Adejumo, who lauded Oyetola as a promise keeper, said the governor has laid to rest all forms of crises pertaining to Labour in Osun since assuming office in 2018.
Seaking recently during an interview, Adejumo commended the multi-sectoral developments Osun has recorded since Oyetola’s emergence, especially in infrastructure and agriculture.
According to Adejumo: “Workers in Osun are not ingrates. ‘To whom much is given, much is equally expected.’ We will make sure we mobilise as many workers as possible to vote Mr .Adegboyega Oyetola back into office for a second term. Politics is not exclusively the business of politicians. We shouldn’t forget that the workers are part of those that will be governed, and so they must be interested in what is happening at the centre.
“We have the right to vote for whoever we are convinced will do our bidding, like the person of Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola who has done our bidding in the last three years plus. It is our own time now to show gratitude for the great work he has done. It is also an opportunity to show gratitude to Almighty God for putting a godly man in that office at this time in history. Oyetola is a godly and God-fearing man.
“If you have interacted with him, you will observe that he isn’t one who talks too much but he follows you with his heart when you present your case before him. He also isn’t given to deceiving people – if what you have presented is possible, he will tell you it is; if not, he tell you it isn’t. If it is possible but can’t be addressed immediately, he will also state clearly to you that it will be addressed at a later time.
“In case anyone is still wondering why he is so precious to Labour in Osun, it is because he has been taking charge and taking care of Labour for the past 11 years; he was the one always interfacing with us as Chief of Staff and we were extremely happy with his person because he always find a way to minimise crises. But since he assumed office as the governor of the State, all forms of crisis have been laid to rest, you hardly hear of any Labour leader addressing press conference against the government.
“Anyone can cross-check this assertion. We have not less than 65 industrial unions in Osun State; so, if all Labour leaders in the State are speaking with one voice that this man is doing well, it means he is actually doing well. Ever since his emergence as governor, workers have been happy, and that accounted for our inability to embark on any strike action since 2018. He is the only governor since the creation of Osun State in whose term workers have never embarked on strike or have any form of crisis because he has been doing well.
“He is doing well, not only for workers but for the State in general. Infrastructural developments are ongoing across the State, both in major cities and in the suburbs. If you move away from Osogbo, to Ede, to Ife, infrastructural developments have been superb so far. In the agricultural sector, he has done so well also. He has continued to excel with meagre resources available in the State. Osun is not indebted to any financial organisation during his tenure, instead he is paying back what he inherited from previous administrations.
“Whoever is reasonable, whoever is godly, whoever is God-fearing will know the difference between the wheat and the chaff without plenty campaigns and sweet talks. Oyetola is God-sent to Osun, and we give all glory to God for raising such a man to lead the State at this critical time,” Comrade Adejumo said.
