Osun residents in panic as armed robbers attack banks, cart away with over 500,000 naira

Residents of Okuku town in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State were on Thursday thrown into a stampede as an armed gang of robbers stormed WEMA bank and one Microfinance bank in the community.

It was gathered that the armed robbers, stormed the banks around noon, shooting sporadically into the air to create fear and scare residents away for them to gain access into the bank and rob.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident, however, noted that although the robbers could not enter into the banks, they looted three ATMs, carting away with over N500, 000.

Opalola noted that a team of Policemen were already on the trail of the armed robbers.

She said, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode, himself led a team of police to the scene of the crime to dislodge the armed robbers and for possible arrest,” the PPRO said.

“The robbery incident happened at Okuku, but the robbers could not enter. Although they looted three ATMs and carted with 500, 000 to 600, 000 naira. The police are still in the bush on the trail of the robbers.”
