In honour of the sudden departure of Yinka Odumakin, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has put efforts in motion to rename the Ife-Moro road after the late activist.
The Ooni made this known on Saturday during the funeral service of the late comrade at Origbo Anglican Grammar School, Moro, Osun State.
The Ife-Moro road would henceforth be known officially as Olayinka Odumakin Boulevard.
The Ooni equally named an ultra-modern garden in the honour of the deceased in his privately owned Students Village in Obafemi Awolowo University where he disclosed that “a dignified bronze bust will be unveiled in his eternal honour.”
Ooni Adeyeye described Odumakin as an unforgettable national personality, a worthy son of the House of Oduduwa. and “a gift to us in Moro, the calmly rustic community in the northern fringes of Ile-Ife.”
In his words, “For us in IFE kingdom, your birthplace and ancestral your home, we will rather celebrate an icon graciously given to us by Olodumare. You are not dead because you can not be dead in our hearts.
“You were not only a worthy son of the House of Oduduwa. You lived Oduduwa land. You breathe Oduduwa. You worked tirelessly for Oduduwa. Your insightfully penetrative perspective on the Yoruba cause is uncommon. Neither is your incisively biting criticism of our steps, delivered impassionately.”
