Osun NIPR, ODA set to hold peace summit

The Osun State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), in a bid to engage political stakeholders and facilitate candidate-citizen discussion, will organise a stakeholders forum tagged “Omoluabi Convergence.”

The summit, which will hold at Adolak Event Centre in Osogbo, on June 28th by 10 am is entitled, “Sustaining Our Values beyond Elections.”

The forum which will have the presence of all the Gubernatorial candidates of distinct political parties in the state as well as all core stakeholders in the state will be thrilled on an educational discourse titled “Osun 2022: A State, Its Politics, Economy and Image.”

The Guest Speaker is Dr. Segun Aina OFR, while a Unilag Emeritus Professor of Sociology and former INEC National Commissioner, Professor Lai Olurode; and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Professor Abdulganiy Raji will serve as Discussants.

The Chairman of Osun NIPR, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, in a statement released on Friday,  17th June, 2022, emphasised the need for the convergence and added that the forum will focus on how the candidates intend to sustain the cherished peace of the state.

In his words, “Sustaining a peaceful coexistence among the various shades of interests in the society as a tool for achieving a stable polity is a fundamental mandate of the NIPR.

“Given the intensity of electioneering, and the emotions this generates at a time like this, it has become imperative for the NIPR to engage stakeholders to ensure peace and order during this window,” Adesoji added.

The Osun NIPR Chairman further informed pressmen that every gubernatorial candidate would be given the NIPR charter to read, and commit themselves tensureng peace and a violent-free election, before, during and after the election.

He also made known that the chapter would be partnering with different Non-Governmental Organisations like Osun Development Association, Kimpact Development Initiative, Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Osun Muslim Community, and media outlets, such as the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Rave FM, Fresh Fm, Correspondent Chapel of NUJ, among others to organise the peace summit.
