Osun man wanted for encouraging LGBT
A middle-aged Bisexual man named, Adetokunbo Abayomi Fadairo, has been declared wanted by the Authorities and member of the community Vigilante securities in Nigeria for supporting and encouraging LGBT in his community.
The practice which has been prohibited in Nigeria attracts 10-year imprisonment according to Anti – LGBT bill signed into law by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, in 2014.
Fadairo, according to sources is Bisexual and LGBTQ activist that coordinates an LGBT group called the RAINBOW AFFAIRS in Osun State.
Findings revealed that he was busted with his other group members during their private meeting in the month of March 2024 during the Bi sexual health awareness program, they were all arrested and he escaped from security custody. He later disappeared and has been declared wanted since then.
It is not a new thing in Nigeria that arbitrary assault, arrest and detention will be portioned to any (LGBT) Lesbian, gay , bisexual, transgender people in Nigeria.
Under the Criminal Code of Nigeria in 1990, it provides severe penalties which include 10 – 14 years imprisonment for “aggravated” homosexual same sex practice.
Also, the Nigeria law provide penalty of up to 14 years in jail for a gay marriage or any member of LGBTQ caught in the act or for membership encouragement of gay clubs and Bisexual society or organization.
Findings revealed that the suspect has however fled the country with the fear of not being caught and punished by the authorities.
