Local government election conducted in Osun State has been largerly described as peaceful and orderly without any hiccups.
Though, witnessed voter aparthy at the early hours on the election day, electorate later came out to exercise their franchise to choose their representatives at the grassroots level.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola alongside his wife, Kafayat Oyetola cast their votes at LA primary school, Popo ward 1 unit 2, in Iragbiji, the headquarters of Boripe local government.
He averred that people’s participation in the exercise is a reposition of trust and confidence in those who would be elected into the various elective posts, hence the need for them to justify it by performing beyond expectations.
Newsmen visited various polling units in different wards in Osogbo, Olorunda and Ifelodun local government areas of the State and observed that the election witnessed low turn out compared to the July 16th governorship election in the State.
While there was early arrival of officials of the OSIEC and election materials in some poling units reverse was the case in some others.
There was also no strict adherence to restrictions placed on human and vehicular movements though commercial activities were on the ebb.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after casting their votes, the governor commeded residents of the State for coming out as a sign of acceptance of the election.
He said the peaceful and successful conduct of the election is a sign that democracy is thriving.
While commending security agencies for maintaining law and order, governor Oyetola equally hailed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
The State Commissioner for Local government, Adebayo Adeleke who cast his vote at ward 11 unit 4, Iree, expressed satisfaction with the process.
