Osun: Herb seller lands in court for child trafficking

A 38-year-old herb seller, Ganiyat Oladapo has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly selling a baby for N150,000.

The accused persons and others still at large committed sometime in June 2020 at Osogbo.

The herb seller was arraigned on two-count of conspiracy and trafficking and unlawful procurement.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jacob Akintunde informed the court that Oladapo conspired with others and procured the baby of one Mariam Oladapo from Osogbo to Anambra State where her child was sold for N150,000.

The offence committed is punishable under Section 14(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003.

The accused person however,  pleaded not guilty to the count preferred against her.

The defence counsel, Taiwo Awokunle moved an oral bail application which was later opposed by the prosecutor on the grounds that the accused person will run away.

The Magistrate, Modupe Awodele granted the bail to the accused person with the sum of N1 million with two sureties.

She adjourned the case to February 9, 2021 for hearing.
