Osun gubernatorial election: INEC releases date

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said the Osun State Governorship election would take place on July 16, 2022.

The commission announced this in a timetable signed by the Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony and released on Tuesday.

According to the timetable, the election process will start on February 15, 2022 with the notice of election and will end on July 16, 2022 with the election.

While the collection and submission of forms EC9 and EC9b will be between  February 16 and March 18, 2022. INEC stated that the tenure of the Osun State Governor would elapse on November 26, 2022.

“By the virtues of the provisions of section 178 (2) of the Nigeria constitution and section 25 (8) of Electoral act, election into the office at a state governor shall hold not less than 160 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of the office.”

The timetable stated that the publication of the final list of candidates by the commission will come up on June 16, while the last day for the submission of polling agents name is July 1, 2022.
