Osun Govt reveals deadline for filing of 2023 annual tax returns

The Osun State Government has revealed the deadline for the filing of 2023 annual tax returns for the employers of labour, and self-employed individuals in the State.

The Executive Chairman, Osun Internal Revenue Service, Prince Adesola Adewumi charged the people of the state to voluntarily file their annual tax returns for the year 2023 between January 31, and March 31, 2024 respectively.

He stated this in Osogbo, the state capital, describing filing of the annual tax returns by all employers as part of discharging their civic duties to the State Government.

Adewumi, who spoke through the Assistant Director, Informal Sector, OIRS noted that filing of annual returns, within the stipulated time, will allow corporate bodies and individuals to start the new year on a fresh note.He said the affected taxpayers of their obligations undr the law, section 81 (2) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2004 as amended.

He stated the law makes it madatory for all employers of labour to file a return volntarily with the relevant tax authority of all emouments paid to its employees not later than 31st January of every year in respect of all employees in its employment during the preceding year.

While asserting that failure to comply with the directive would attract penalties as well as other statutory sanctions.

He then appealed to taxpayers to attach all necessary information and documents required during filing, directing that soft copy of the annual tax returns should be sent to OIRS website; www.oirs.ng, while the hardcopy should be brought down to OIRS headquarters for proper documentation.
