Osun State Comm issioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji has charged technocrats on the need to assist in driving the revenue of the state by avoiding leakages.
The Commissioner identified concerted efforts in blocking financial leakages as a means to assist Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in his determination to develop the State.
He stated this while addressing sectors of the State at the ongoing bilateral meeting on the formulation of the State’s 2022 budget held at the government secretariat.
While explaining that no government will be able to deliver on promises made to the electorates without adequate funds, Oyebamiji stressed that despite the paucity of funds, the present administration has continued to pay salaries even before the end of the month.
He said, “If we are really serious about driving the economy of our dear state forward we must all deliberately work to block financial leakages and improve our revenue. We need a serious re-engineering, it’s like there is a syndicate to steal our money and it’s sad.
“If we all don’t take this matter seriously all of us will be affected and I can assure you that it’s only a matter of time before the bubble will burst. We just can not continue like this. We must all put in concerted efforts to block leakages and improve our revenue.
“We are lucky to have a Governor who already has a template for development and which he is passionate about, we have seen the sincerity of purpose in him, he is ready to give more to the state if there are more resources at his disposal.
“The economy of the world, Nigeria and our state is still very fragile as a result of the effect of COVID-19, despite that fact, Oyetola has been paying full salaries even before the end of the month and at the same time paying attention to infrastructural development across the state.
“We need to seriously think of how we can assist our state to move forward.”
