An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 27-year-old man, Bidemi Olanrewaju for a two-count charge bordering on armed robbery and rape.
Olanrewaju reportedly committed the offences on July 25 at Fajuyi area in Ile-Ife.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, the accused person who was armed with a gun and an axe robbed a 20-year-old girl and one other of their two mobile phones and a bag containing N4,500.
He added that the accused person also raped the 20-year-old girl.
The offence committed is punishable under section 1(1), (2)(a)(b),3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol 14, Laws of Federation, 2004 and contravened Sections 358 and 360 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Magistrate Adedotun Ayeni did not take the plea of the accused person, saying his court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case.
Ayeni ordered the police to return the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The magistrate, thereafter, ordered the remand of the accused person at Ile-Ife Correctional Centre, while the case was adjourned till Sept 16, 2021.
