Osun Amotekun corps apprehend suspected cultists in Osun

Some suspected cultists terrorising some communities in Ilesa metropolis have been arrested by the operatives of Osun Amotekun corps in Ilesa metropolis.

The Corps Commander, Brig.- Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, made this known to the press on Thursday in Osogbo.

Adewinmbi said the arrest was made possible through the joint efforts with the Nigerian Police anti cultism unit to apprehend the culprits at various spots in Ilesa town

The Commander said that the cultists have been on the wanted list of the Police anti-cultism unit for a long time before they were arrested.

“The hitman of Eiye confraternity, Busayo Ojo, was arrested with cartridge bullets, charms and other dangerous weapons.

“Others include Kareem Ojo, Ademola salamo, Olatunji Ezekiel, Adeyeye Adekunle and Tope Oguntade at various locations,” he said.

According to him, the suspects, after their arrest, confessed to being members of theEiye confraternity for a long time.

“During cross-exmination, the suspects confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity and they have been members for a long time.

They have been on the wanted list of the Osun Police Anti-Cultism Unit for a very lng time before luck ran against them.”Adewinmbi, however, said the suspects had been handed over to the Police anti-cultism unit for subsequent investigation and inerrogation before prosecution.

Also on Thursday the state corp arrested a 30-year-old e-convict, Dada Isiaka, who was an indigene of Ada in the Bripe Local Government of sun, for allegedly defiling a nie-year-old girl in Ada Town.

Retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Aewinmbi, Osun State Amotekun Commander, in his statement said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday at the scene of the crime.

Mr Adewinmbi explained that the suspect lured a minor, around Aogun Compound in Ada, to an uncompleted building in the area and allegedly defiled her.

He said the girl’s shouts during the assault attracted the attention of residents of the area who quickly called officials of Amotekun Boripe Command to the incident.

“The girl raised the alarm when she was being assaulted and when residents rushed to the scene of the incident, they met her with blood coming out of her private parts. The residents apprehended the suspect on the spot and called the attention of Amotekun operatives to the incident. When the Amotekun officers took the suspect in for questioning, he admitted that he committed the offence,” he said.

Mr Adewinmbi explained that it was also discovered during interrogation, that the suspect was an ex-convict, having served three months in jail for stealing.

The commander said the suspect, however, had been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

He appealed to residents of the state to always report any infraction and suspicious movements in their areas to security agents for prompt action
