Osun Amotekun arrests five men for theft

Operatives of Osun Amotekun Corps have arrested five men in different locations of the state for theft.

The five suspects were arrested for theft of motorcycle, vehicle, and vehicle engines during routine patrols by operatives of the corps.

Confirming the arrest to journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi (rtd) said the suspects were arrested by the operatives after complaints were lodged at the corps commands.

According to him, “Olatinwo Koyum Sunday, 18 years and Muideen Usman, 19 years, were arrested for motorcycle theft in Apomu of Isokan Local Government of Osun State. The duo were arrested for stealing a neighbour’s Bajaj motorcycle and sold it to Bokoto at Ogunpa Ibadan for the sum of N15,000.

“After a complaint was lodged at Amotekun Isokan Command, Amotekun operatives swung into action immediately and apprehended the culprit in their hideout.

“Gbenga Adewale, 45 years and Kehinde Adeoti, 51 years, were arrested by the operatives on routine night patrol for attempting to steal a vehicle engine in Osogbo on Monday night.

“Sodiq Afolabi was arrested for attempting to steal a vehicle in Ikirun, town, Ifelodun local government area of Osun State. He was arrested by personnel of the intelligence section of the corps when trying to steal the vehicle.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing the crime,” Adewinmbi disclosed.

The Osun Amotekun boss revealed that the suspects will be handed over to the police for subsequent interrogation and prosecution.
