Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has on Tuesday described the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun as progressive party in the state, saying the party has more than enough for the people of the state.
Adeleke made this known at a stakeholders meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party held at the Government House, Osogbo.
The Governor said his administration has provided infrastructure and reduced poverty through various interventions. He said a party that is doing the bidding of the people, is a progressive party, noting that his administration has touched many households through his government programmes and policies.
Adeleke added that his government is a progressive government in Osun.
“I have made sacrifices for the development of the state. I didn’t collect the security vote in the interest of the state. I want Osun to be a leading example of other states.”
He called on party leaders and followers to sheath their sword in the interest of the party.
“My only appeal to us is that we must remain united. We should never allow our issues to degenerate. We must remain one united family.
“We all know that this local government election is key for our 2026 governorship election. We must not allow personal interest to supersede the general interest of the party,” Adeleke said.
He called on leaders of the party to stop any further infighting on the local government issue. He urged them to stop taking matters to social media, saying the party should resolve its matters internally.
The governor added: “I task us to remember that we have a wounded opposition that is desperately seeking to destroy the state. We should not give them ammunition to use against us.
“We must ensure party discipline. We must abide by decisions of the party leadership. That is the way to strengthen the party and enhance our chance to win elections.”
He assured the people that his government is working to deliver on his electoral promises, stressing that more good things are coming. The government is doing a lot to bring relief to the people of the state.
Speaking, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Sunday Bisi said, “The party is here as a family. This is a family meeting. There is insinuation that the party is planning to impose candidates on the people. We are resolving the issues. We are here to put our house in order.
“Some are blackmailing the Adeleke dynasty of imposing candidates or melding into the affairs of the party. PDP is a party of discipline and upholds the principle of democracy. Everybody’s free to contest. The party is given level plain ground to operate during forthcoming elections.
“The party is well prepared for the Local Government election in all the 332 wards in the state. They should go back to their local governments and start campaigning. Politics is local, let there be peace in all local governments.”
The governor noted that his administration has paid bursary to students, disbursed 4 billion naira to cooperative bodies in Osun, N2 billion paid for half salaries owned by last administration, and cooperative deduction, adding that new teachers would soon be announced.
