Osun 2022: Electorate, ex-speaker commend INEC on peaceful process, participation

…As Timi of Ede calls on politicians not to allow personal interest

Electorate in Ede South and Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State have described the conduct of ongoing Osun Governorship election peaceful, commending the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the level of maturity displayed in the poll.

The exercise which commenced in Ede South Local Government Area around 9:01 am after INEC officials addressed voters on the guidelines for voting.

They made the remark on Saturday during the ongoing gubernatorial exercise in the state.

Alhaji Muritala Osonla in Ward 4 Alajue 1 Polling Unit 011 in Aloda the voting exercise was calm and the turn out of the voters was massive and encouraging.

He said if the trend continues, the gubernatorial exercise in Osun would be the best in the country.

Speaking, Babawale Taofeeq in Oloki Akoda unit 001 ward 9 commended the INEC for the smooth conduct of the poll, stating that future election will record more success if they continue with the usage of the technology in the election.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Ambassador to Mexico, Amb Rafiu Adejare Bello while addressing newsmen after he casted his vote charged politicians to learn how to accept outcome of election.

The former Speaker of Osun State House Assembly stated this after he casted his vote urged the politicians to respect people’s wish.
According to Adejare “This is my family compound. Have contested here and won; have contested here and lost. When I won, heaven did not fall ditto when i lost. We should not see election as a do or die affair.

Adejare eulogised INEC for allowing BIVAS machine to replace card reader, “this is commendable as you can see how people are waiting on the queue to be accredited and cast their votes.

“This is one of the benefits of the technological advancement. It has put a stop to any form of rigging.

He however called on the voters to remain calm and be ready to vote their conscience without any molestation or financial inducement.

“It’s important I tell our people that they should not sell their votes. Vote the candidate of your choice.

Similarly, the Timi of Ede land, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, called on the politicians not to allow their personal interest or ambition to override that of the general populace.

The monarch said, “Like I said at the Eid prayer ground during sallah, we should not fight ourselves. The town can only progress when we allow peace to reign.

“Come out en-mass, vote without any financial inducement. Don’t sell your vote.” the monarch said.
