OSGoF, NBS collaborate to provide useful Data for effective decision-making

In order to provide various sectors of the country’s economy with accurate and timely data to evolve more effective and efficient Evidence-Base Decision Support System, the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have agreed to improve their level of cooperation through a proactive joint committee that would be interacting with relevant institutions and agencies.

The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Samuel Adeniran Taiwo and his counterpart, the Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale both announced this when the former led some of his directors and management members on a courtesy call to NBS Headquarters in Abuja recently.

The duo agreed that they have similar job descriptions and that the correlation of data and statistical figures to maps would give better meanings to maps that would serve as models to quicken understanding, analysis of issues and good decision-making.

The Global Statistical Geospatial Framework under the auspices of the United Nations (UN)-Experts Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information (EG-ISGI) UN-Global speaks volume of the necessary rapport between OSGoF and the NBS.

The Statistician-General who expressed his delight over the courtesy call commended the SGoF for initiating the visit expressing hope that the country would benefit enormously from the collaboration between OSGoF and the NBS.

Highlight of the courtesy call was the presentation of questionnaire seeking the geospatial needs of the NBS to the Statistician-General. The SGoF who made the presentation said the questionnaire was design for all MDAs to enable them supply their answers that would help OSGoF provide their geospatial needs.

Surv. Taiwo said OSGoF has aligned all its activities to the Federal Government areas of focus and as such OSGoF has been positioned to give necessary geospatial support to the MDAs for them to deliver and impact on the economy.
