One dead as building collapses in Akure

It was tragedy on Tuesday in Akure, the Ondo state capital as one person was confirmed dead in a storey building collapsed along popular Fanibi junction.

While other members of the family who were earlier trapped in the collapsed building have been rescued.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 3am while the occupants had slept.

While narrating the incident to journalists, Benson Olom, whose family was affected said; “the building collapsed and my mother, died instantly, and her remains have been taken out.”

Olom noted that his five children and his wife were rescued from the building.

Olom, who blamed the landlord of the building for tampering with the beam of building said the landlord recently came and tampared with the beam of the building.

According to him, the landlord wants to turn the downstairs to flat without making proper provision to sustain the building.

“One of my children who sustained a head injury has been taken to the hospital and I was told she’s going to undergo a surgery. I want government and well meaning Nigerians to come to my rescue,” he said.

Following the saddening incident, Ondo state government, through the Ministry of Environment has sealed off the building till further notice.
