Ondo govt. urges unity among health unions
The Ondo State Government has urged unions in the health sector to unite and work towards quality healthcare delivery in the state.
Prof. Dayo Faduyile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, gave the advice on Thursday in Akure through a statement issued by Mr Samson Omotayo, the Press Officer in the state Ministry of Health.
Omotayo said Faduyile spoke at the inaugural meeting of the Committee on Peace and Conflict Resolution in the State Health Sector.
He said that the committee was set up to dissect issues affecting all health workers to achieve success in the sector.
He asked the committee to re-launch health workers into the heart of the people of the state.
According to him, it was high time; the unions stopped the cold war among them and have a good working relationship.
The SA said that health workers in the state should see themselves as brothers’ keepers.
Faduyile said that as a formidable team to champion the course of the sector, the stage was set to use the committee to right the wrongs in the sector.
Earlier, Dr Stella Adegbehingbe, the state Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), said that there was disunity among health personnel, saying this had affected the smooth running of the sector.
Adegbehingbe lauded the setting up of the committee, which she said, would chart a new way forward, assuring that NMA would support the committee to succeed.
In his remarks, Mr Eniola Akindeko, the state Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), appreciated the SA for constituting the committee, describing it as timely.
He said that setting up of the committee would go a long way bringing peace and harmony among health unions.
Also Mr Kehinde Olomiye, the state Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, said that the in-fighting among the various health unions was an ill-wind that blew no good.
Olomiye called for more collaboration among the unions for peace to reign.
Similarly, Mr Olawale Ogunmola, the state Chairman of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, said that the committee was a welcome development and promised to support its activities.
Mr Emmanuel Orimoloye, the state Chairman, Association of Health Records and Information Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AHRIMPN), corroborated the earlier speakers’ views on the committee.
