Ondo Govt. erects median barriers to address traffic problem in Akure

The Ondo State Government has replaced the old railings on Oba Adesida Road in Akure, the state capital with concrete median barriers.

Also, residents of the state have been urged to comply with government guidelines aimed at making Akure a befitting state capital.

The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Saka Ogunleye made this known on Monday in Akure while carrying out the replacement exercise from the Post Office Junction to Texaco Filling Station on Oba Adesida Road.

He said the exercise was aimed at preventing pedestrians from indiscriminate crossing of roads leading to obstruction of easy traffic flow.

According to him, successive administrations had tried to stop the habit by erecting iron railings,  saying hoodlums used to destroy them thereby making government to lose money invested in the project.

“This innovation is the final government step to make people ease traffic flow by putting a stop to crossing the median by making use of the bridge. And hopefully nobody will flout the new directive,” he said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Taiwo Otun explained that the development would stop those using the walkway for trading and other activities.

Otun said that the project would cover over 500 meters in distance.
