As the Ondo State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16 approaches, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to incite violence during the election. This allegation was detailed in a statement from Ayo Fadaka, Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the PDP Campaign Organisation, released on Thursday.
The PDP has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa from using state resources to undermine security in the run-up to the election. The party also called on the Inspector General of Police and other top security officials to take proactive measures against the alleged intentions of the ruling party to incite violence before and during the election.
The PDP’s statement highlighted concerns about Governor Aiyedatiwa’s alleged efforts to disrupt the state’s peace as the election approaches, noting specific actions that they believe indicate such intentions. They urged security agencies to monitor these developments closely to prevent potential breaches.
In response, Steve Otaloro, APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, dismissed the PDP’s accusations as baseless and intended to distract from the governor’s genuine efforts to maintain peace and security. Otaloro emphasized that the governor’s actions are legitimate and aimed at enhancing safety in the state. He criticized the PDP for making unfounded claims and urged them to focus on issue-based campaigning instead of spreading fear. The APC assured the public of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to a peaceful and fair election.
