Ondo: Court orders family to constitute peace committee over land issue

An Ondo State High Court, sitting in Akure has ordered the Arijodi/Ologunmolaare family in Akure to set up a standing committee that would be in charge of the family’s property in order to reunite the entire family.

In a judgment handed down by the presiding judge, Justice Aderemi Adegoroye,  made available to journalists on Tuesday in Akure on a suit filed by the family on who should be in charge of partitioning and sales of the family land, ruled that “Chief (Mrs.) Cecilia Taye Ologede and Pastor Akintade Oni are the family head and secretary respectively.”

In the suit No. AK/71/2016 filed by the Arijodi/Ologunmolaare against Chief (Mrs.) Cecilia Taye Ologede and Pastor Akintade Oni, the applicant claimed that the respondents could not unilaterally alienate or transfer any interest in the Arijodi/Ologunmolaare family land.

“That Arijodi/Ologunmolaare family shall set up a standing committee comprising of Chief (Mrs.) Cecilia Taye Ologede and Pastor Akintade Oni, including the claimants and some other principal members of the family.

“The Committee shall be in charge of the partitioning/sales, transfer, alienation or any other forms of dealing with the Arijodi/Ologunmolaare family land in such a way as shall affect the right of ownership of any person or group of persons.”

While constituting the committee at the Deji’s palace in Akure, Chief (Mrs.) Cecilia Taye Ologede disclosed that a 9-man standing committee, comprising members of either parties, was set up by the family in compliance with the court’s ruling.

Chief (Mrs.) Ologede, the Iyalobinrin of Eleyowo, Eleyowo community, disclosed that she remained the head and Pastor Akintade Oni the family secretary as upheld by the court, and called on all members of the family to bury the hatchet and unite for peaceful coexistence in the family.

Chief (Mrs.) Ologede also asked any member of the family who’s interested in the family’s chieftaincy title as Olu, to obtain form at the Deji’s palace.
