Ondo APC Primary: How former Minister, Alasoadura lost Senate ticket to Adegbonmire

Adeniyi Adegbonmire, has emerged the All   Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Ondo Central Senatorial District having won the party’s primary held on Saturday in Akure, the Ondo state capital to defeat the immediate past Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Tayo Alasoadura.

Adegbonmire polled 144 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alasoadura, the immediate past Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, who got 88 votes.

He was declared winner by the Chairman electoral committee, Dr. Clara Njowku, having scored the highest votes of election.

According to her, out of the 325 registered delegates, 323 delegates were accredited and voted.

She added that the delegates who participated in the primary were from six local governments of Akure South, Akure North, Ondo East, Ondo West, Ondo East and Idanre which made up the Central Senatorial District.

During the primary, four other aspirants which include Omowumi Olatunji got two votes, Tola Awosika received 44 votes, Adeniran Oyebade scored zero votes and Ilesola Akinpelumi had 45 votes. Adegbonmire, who spoke with journalists after the election, appreciated the people and party faithful for standing by him.

Adegbonmire, who said he was not given any chance when he joined the race, however, promised to reconcile with other aspirants for them to support the APC to victory at the general elections.

He said, “I know the APC will be victorious and I will be the Senator. Myself and the PDP candidate match each other and we are going to have a good fight a good election.” Also in Ondo North Senatorial District, a businessman, Jide Ipinsagba got 268 votes to defeat his closest rival Alex Ajipe who had 57 votes.
