Former Osun deputy governor and two-time gubernatorial candidate in the State, Senator Iyiola Omisore has officially registered as a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omisore formalised his defection to APC on Monday at Saint Gabriel Polling Unit 003, in Ife-East Local Government Area of Osun State.
The former deputy governor contested governorship elections in Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party in 2014 and Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2018.
The newly registered APC member was admitted with happiness by members of the party such as Osun Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; Osun APC Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun; Publisher, Nigerian NewsDirect, Dr. Samuel Ibiyemi among others.
In their separate remarks, existing members of the All Progressives Congress described Omisore’s membership registration as a powerful move for the party.
Prince Famodun said Omisore’s defection will be the beginning of a new era in the state, saying it will be of immense benefit to APC.
He said, “I’m glad to witness the registration of Senator Iyiola Omisore into APC. The former governor of putting his name down today as a member of APC.
“What is been done today put an end to all the insinuations that he will never join APC and that is deceiving APC.
“On behalf of the leadership of the party I want to thank you, Senator, such that what you are doing today will be of immense benefit to APC, Ile-Ife and Osun State. This will be the beginning of a new era in the state.”
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to Governor Oyetola on Education, Jamiu Olawumi described Omisore’s registration as a mileage which will make APC better.
According to Jamiu, “In the last gubernatorial election, the choice of APC was very better, and if we now have followers of Senator Iyiola Omisore joining us from SDP, we know that our better is being bettered again, and other parties will have to struggle before they can catch up with us. So, we are comfortable.
“It is a simple example of Osmosis in Biology. The stronger is drawing the weaker. It is for those who enjoy accolades of Nigerians, who have made their marks, who have enjoined political enigma that Nigeria needs to move forward.
“This is a big mileage, and I can assure you, wherever Iyiola Omisore is, majority of Ife people are there. And we are happy we are having him today.”
On his part, Publisher of Nigerian NewsDirect and ex APC gubernatorial aspirant who stepped down for Governor Oyetola, Dr Samuel Ibiyemi averred that the party remains undefeated with the coming of Iyiola Omisore.
Dr Ibiyemi described Omisore as a man with an antecedent of performance, saying “He is going to bring progress to Ife land.”
In his words, “As you all know, APC is going the main party at the federal level, and for us to have a meaningful development and recognition of different indigenes at the state and federal levels, we need a very powerful force. In the current administration, Ife indigenes are more at the top class in Osun State, not to talk of federal.
“Our Baba, Senator Iyiola Omisore, coming to join us in APC will make Ife go up. He has an antecedent of performance. He has his record of supporting Ife. He has the record both at the federal and state levels. He has his record when he was the chairman of Federal Appropriations Committee. He was one of those who approved the excess crude account which the government at that time was able to manage.
“As the former deputy governor of Osun, look around in terms of infrastructure, the cooperation he gave the governor at the state level.
“Coming to merge with APC is going to promote APC. With Omisore, APC remains undefeated henceforth in Osun State at the federal, state, and local government.
“It is a thing of joy, and when we have more people within APC, that is, when the federal government can remember that there is a party called APC in Osun State.”
