Okonkwo pledges to secure Anambra for APC, drive statewide development

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, has expressed confidence in securing victory in the upcoming election and integrating the South-East into the party’s stronghold.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the Anambra off-cycle governorship election, Okonkwo reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the state.

By completing the forms, he is now officially in the race for the APC ticket in the party’s primary election, scheduled for 5 April.

Okonkwo, who also serves as President of the Nigeria-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, outlined his vision for Anambra, promising to tackle pressing issues such as insecurity, unemployment, and underdevelopment.

He expressed optimism that, with divine favour and party backing, he would secure the APC nomination and go on to win the governorship election on 8 November.

Describing his return to the APC as a “homecoming,” Okonkwo vowed to lead a strong campaign to secure victory for the party.

He dismissed speculation of a supposed agreement between the presidency and Anambra’s current governor to deliver 25 per cent of the state’s votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Okonkwo labelled such claims as political manoeuvres and maintained that the APC’s primary objective in Anambra and the wider South-East was to deliver sustainable development and positive change.
