Ogun youths move against cholera outbreak, clean Lafenwa market

Members of the Ogun Youth Advocate for Social Development (OGYASD) over the weekend took to the popular Lafenwa market in Abeokuta, Ogun state for comprehensive sanitation In order to safeguard the state against the outbreak of communicable diseases especially cholera.
The intervention is sequel to demand by some market women and men who lamented that the market was operating below public hygiene standard and needed some help to really clean it up .
The youth group in their large number moved through the expansive market with their work tools, sweeping and clearing off the dirts defacing the market.
The President of the group, Comrade Oluseyi Alamu in an interview with journalists said the gesture was to butress the efforts of current administration of Gov. Dapo Abiodun to ensure good hygiene across the state.
Alamu disclosed that the exercise was not first of its kind, stressing that the group had embarked on same exercise in some markets in the state recently.
He hinted that the group planned to make the exercise regular in all the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
He said “We are doing this in support of Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s vision to make the state a place of good hygiene and to make Ogun communities free of poor hygiene. The government cannot do it alone that’s why we are out to support.
“All of us in OGYASD are giving kudos to her Excellency, wife of the governor, Dr. Bamidele Abiodun who has been giving us strong support. She’s is really a woman who means well for the people of Ogun state. She has really put us on our toes, making sure that we are productive.
“We cannot also forget the fatherly advise and supports of the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo and Adele of Orile-Oko
Chief Olakunle Olalekan for his encouragement. Asiwaju would always challenge us to stand up as youths to support governor Abiodun in moving Ogun forward. We really love him.
Speaking on behalf of the Iyaloja of the market, Alhaja Sidikat Owe lauded the youth for being agent of positive change urging other youths in the state to also take a cue from this humanitarian act and be more committed to the development of the state.
