Ogun unveils Gateway Dry Port, as Gov Abiodun positions State as strategic logistics hub
In a groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday, Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, laid the foundation for the Gateway Dry Port and Inland Container Terminal at Shoderu Kajola in Ewekoro Local Government Area.
This monumental project is set to reshape the region’s transportation infrastructure and significantly boost its economic landscape.
The Governor, speaking at the ceremony, emphasized the importance of the project in realizing the administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda, designed to fortify sustainable development in Ogun State.
“Today’s event is yet another powerful demonstration of our commitment to socio-economic development,” he said, expressing gratitude to many stakeholders, including the Honorable Minister for Blue Marine Economy, Alhaji Olugboyega Oyetola, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their unwavering support.
He noted, “Ogun State, the Gateway State, serves as the connection between Lagos, the financial capital, and the rest of the country.” Abiodun highlighted the state’s advantages such as proximity to key transportation hubs, including the busiest airport and seaport in Nigeria, which combined with the new dry port, will enhance Ogun’s position as an industrial capital with over 6,000 industries.
The Governor described the Gateway Dry Port as a “key enabler of industrial activity and manufacturing,” projecting it would streamline logistics and reduce congestion at both the Tin Can and Apapa ports in Lagos. “Manufacturers will be able to bring in raw materials without the hassle of navigating Lagos’ busy ports, decreasing both lead times and costs,” he explained.
With the estimated land coverage of 600 hectares for the first phase, the facility is expected to not only transform the logistics landscape but also create numerous job opportunities and spur ancillary businesses in the region.
“This initiative will create multiplier effects in the community,” he added, urging local residents to take ownership of the project and protect the investment.
In recognizing the collaborative spirit necessary for such a landmark undertaking, Governor Abiodun lauded the efforts of key partners like ARISE Infrastructure Corporation and the Nigeria Shippers Council, affirming confidence in their capacity to ensure the swift execution of the project. “This project is a testament to our shared vision of prosperity and industrialization,” he stated.
As Ogun State steps into a new chapter of economic growth and job creation, Abiodun reassured stakeholders, including captains of industry and traditional rulers, of the administration’s commitment to strategic partnerships that foster development.
“Together, we are building a brighter future for Ogun State and Nigeria,” he reiterated signaling a robust pathway toward making Ogun a leading logistics and commercial center in Nigeria and West Africa.
