The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun State Chapter has urged other political office holders to emulate the selfless disposition of Hon Adesegun Adekoya, the Deputy Minority Whip at the House of Representatives, Abuja saying that it was high time Nigerian leaders began putting service above self for us to have a country of our dreams.

The Secretary of NANS, Ogun State Chapter, Comr. Adeyemi Samson gave this commendation when the students in their large numbers including the Students’ Union Government (SUG) leaders of all the 13 government owned tertiary institutions in the state paid the federal lawmaker, fondly called ‘Attacker’ a thank you visit in his country home at Ago Iwoye, Ijebu North local government area of the state.

Speaking with our Correspondent, Comr Adeyemi, a 400 level Political Science student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ago Iwoye said that the students decided to come around and appreciate Hon Adesegun Adekoya Abdel-Majid representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside federal constituency for his uncommon love for the students and the premium value he placed on the development of education.

He said “this is a lawmaker representing just a part of Ijebu land but he has decided to extend his selfless service across the state with the donation of 200 window 10 laptops that came with N10,000 worth of data, we know the worth of these computers.

This is quite commendable and very timely given the fact that many schools are now going virtual due to Covid-19 pandemic and these computer systems will just be very useful for us; the students”.

Adeyemi said “Hon Adesegun Adekoya’s love for the students and education in general is just fantastic. You will recall that he is the same lawmaker that sponsored the bill that now pegged retirement age of teachers from 60 to 65. We are students and not politicians or member of any political party but if you are doing well, working for the betterment of Nigerian youths, we will definitely be there to encourage you to do more and that is the motive of our visit”.

The students’ leader has however thrown challenge at other politicians who would rather embezzle or sit on the resources they are suppose to use in taking care of the people urging them to borrow a leaf from the favourable disposition of Hon Adesegun Adekoya to selfless leadership and making life easier for the people.

Adeyemi said “this set of selfish politicians should remember the thin line between life and death, once you are gone, that’s the end, people can only remember your good deeds which is also quite important before God, so rather than amassing wealth unnecessarily, let them take a cue from Hon Adesegun Adekoya and serve the people with the resources that were appropriated for same purpose”.
