Ogun State Police Command said its joint security patrol on Sunday, with the cooperation of the officers of So-Safe Corps arrested two alleged thieves, Kolawole Shobowale and Moruf Soyoye alleged to have for some time been terrorising and breaking into shops and homes of residents of Oke-Ejigbo, Abeokuta
According to statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, SP Omolola Odutola, Kolawole and Moruf were arrested around 6:30am yesterday with the help of intelligence received from one Commander Lawal Mudashiru, a So-Safe officer
The statement disclosed that, the residents of the area had always lodged complaints about the nefarious activities of these suspects to CSP Hadiza Abu Oganyi, the DPO of Oke Itoku division but it was as if their day of reckoning would not be here until they were rounded up early morning of Sunday, August 20.
The police said that the So-Safe Corps had sighted the three-member gang and trailed them to their houses with one of them with blood stained leg carrying a live turkey. He was said to have cordoned off these houses leading eventually to their arrest, though one of the suspects was said to have escaped.
Those arrested were said to have confessed to the crime.
Items recovered from the houses where the suspects were arrested include one live turkey, detergents, toothpastes, kegs of palm oil, kegs of vegetable oil, half bag of rice, phones, GOTV decoder, sacks of clothes, indomie noodles, macaroni, insecticide, soaps among other food stuff and home use commodities.
The residents of the area were said to have besieged the Oke Itoku division of the Nigeria Police to identify if any of those items belong to them.
The statement said that the matter would be transfered to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation while the suspects will soon be charged to court to answer for their misdemeanours.
