Ogun Police arrest man for beating 35-yr-old cigarette seller to death over N50

A32-yr-old man, Biodun Adebiyi of No 35, Oladun street Ikotun Lagos has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police command for beating 30-yr-old cigarette seller, one Mukaila Adamu, to death over N50.

Biodun was said to have committed the crime at Ajegunle area, Idiroko, a border town in Ogun State.

According to a statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested on Sunday, December 5, 2021 after a report was lodged against him at Idiroko Divisional headquarters by the father of the deceased, one Adamu Abubakar.

Adamu was said to have reported that the suspect came to his shop at Ajegunle area of Idiroko at about 2 pm to buy cigarettes and his son Mukaila Adamu attended to him.

He stated further that at about 10 pm, Biodun came back and demanded for N50 change.

This was said to have led to argument between him and his son, and in the course of the argument, Biodun allegedly descended heavily on his son Mukaila Adamu with fist blow, consequent upon which he collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Upon this report, the DPO Idiroko Division, CSP Shadrach Oriloye was said to have quickly led his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.

The corpse of the deceased was said to have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
