Ogun police arrest four notorious armed robbery suspects

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command said they have arrested four notorious armed robbery suspects, who specialised in snatching motorcycle from owners at gun point around Ajuwon-Akute in Ifo local Government Area of the state.

According to statement from the Spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the alleged armed robbers were said to have been arrested on Monday, October 24 around 3am while robbing one Sunday Doile of his Bajaj motorcycle.

The four suspects are 20 years old Muhammad Adamu, 22 years old Okacha Alidu, 28 years old Yusuf Mohammed and 20 years old Muniru Sunmaila.

They were said to have been arrested following a distress call received at Ajuwon police divisional headquarters at about 3:00a.m, on the fateful day detailing how the armed robbery suspects were operating and had attacked one Sunday Doile at Onibudo area of Akute and snatched his Bajaj motorcycle at gun point.

Receiving the distress call, the DPO Ajuwon division, SP Andrew Akinseye was said to have quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene.

On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums who were said to be about six in number took to their heels in different directions, while one of them escaped with the snatched motorcycle.

Others were, however, hotly chased, and four amongst them were apprehended.

On interrogation, the suspects were said to have confessed being the syndicate responsible for various cases of motorcycle snatching in Ajuwon and its environs.

They confessed further that their mode of operation is to use a motorcycle belonging to one of them to cross the one they want to snatch, after which they will show their gun to the victim and order him/her to surrender the motorcycle.

They disclosed further that any of their victims who struggled with them will be hit on the head with an iron rod, and the motorcycle will be taken away while the owner is left unconscious. They equally claimed to have killed one of their victims in the process.

Recovered from them were two locally made pistols, one iron rod, one cutlass,  one live cartridge, three expended cartridges and assorted charms.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.

He also directed that the escaped members of the gang must be hunted for wherever they might be.
