Ogun police arrest 37-year-old Beneniose who defrauded couple of N5M

A 37-year-old citizen of Benin Republic, Gbese Peter has been arrested by men of Ogun state police command for allegedly defrauding a couple Mr. & Mrs. Bamigboye Alao of total sum of N5million under the pretence of helping them to overcome their spiritual problem and shielding their children from untimely death.

The alleged fraudster, Gbese Peter was arrested following the complaint lodged at Sabo police station, Abeokuta by Mrs. Bamigboye.

Mrs. Bamgboye, according to statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Monday was said to have informed the police that she and her husband met the suspect about five years ago when he warned them about a serious spiritual calamity awaiting them and their children if an urgent spiritual step was not taken.

She explained that out of fear of the unknown, they agreed to embark on the said spiritual journey during which time the suspect took them to the Republic of Benin where he gave them a wooden coffin which he instructed them not to open until he asked them to do so.

Mrs. Bamgboye stated further that the suspect from this time started collecting money from them, until they coughed out the total sum of N5million adding that they later realized that they had been swindled and that it was the shock of this incident that led to the death of her husband.

Receiving this report, the DPO Sabo division, Abeokuta of the Nigeria Police, SP Nicholas Tamunoinom detailed his detectives to go after the suspect and with the help of members of public he was arrested on the 25th of July 2020.

The suspect, during interrogation allegedly confessed to collecting money under false pretence from the couple but he claimed that he only collected sum of N3.5million and not N5milion as claimed by his victim and that he had used the money to build a house for himself.

Recovered from the suspect were wooden coffin containing white cloth and other substance, horn wrapped with white cloth and beads.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward A. Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State criminal investigation and intelligence department for proper investigation and diligent prosecution.
