Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Abeokuta North local government has shortlisted its list of eight Chairmanship aspirants to three.

The party leaders and stakeholders took the decision at a meeting held at Green Legacy Resort, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Abeokuta on Monday

Those picked among the eight Chairmanship aspirants jostling to occupy the seat of the local government in the elections slated for Saturday, July 24 are Engr Olalekan Tajudeen Ishola, Hon Wale Bello and Hon Bayo Ayorinde.

Our Correspondent gathered that this decision is also hinged on result of the report submitted by the party screening committee headed by Barrister Abeeb Ajayi.

Speaking with journalists during the exercise, the Organising Secretary for the ruling party in the state, Mr Yemi Adelani said that the exercise was done in compliance with the decision  reached with the governor who had directed that the party should try to adopt a consensus candidate and where that fails, the list of the aspirants should be pruned to two or three.

Mr Adelani said “we have done exactly what the governor wanted us to do, a committee was set up for this exercise and they came up with the names of these three people, the committee had pruned the aspirants from eight to three and a meeting of the party leaders had just been held to ratify the decision of the committee.

“Those three names will be forwarded to the appropriate quarters for consideration. It’s been a very peaceful and orderly exercise as you can see because we are all one big family”, he concluded.
