Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta
Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Ogun state, Imeko-Afon local government has nominated three out of the 9 aspirants in the race.
Those picked at the meeting held at IBD Hotel, Abeokuta by the APC leaders in Imeko-Afon local government are Yayah Fadipe, Olorode Adewale and Olorode Theophilus.
This move was said to be in line with the directive of Gov. Dapo Abiodun who had during the last APC leaders and stakeholders meeting urged each local government to prune down the list of aspirants to either two or three in the event that a consensus candidate could not be picked.
The party leadership thereafter agreed to present the names of the aspirants to the Governor and the party as mandated.
While briefing newsmen after the meeting, one of the leaders who pleaded anonymity confirmed that process that produced the three aspirants was fair and devoid of any form of irregularity.
He added that the leaders had followed the governor’s directive of pruning down the list of aspirants to a maximum three, where a consensus candidate could not be picked.
According to him “What we have done here today is representative of what the Governor, HE Prince Dapo Abiodun told us to do in order to have a free and fair primary election. We have not been able to elect a consensus candidate, so we had to nominate three aspirants who we believe are best suited for the growth and development of Imeko Afon local government will eventually emerge.”
He lauded the state governor for promoting fairness and transparency in the local government primary elections.
