A lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Dr. Stephen Ukenna has been arrested by the police for allegedly forcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old student of the school (name withheld)..
Açcording to statement from the Spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Tuesday, 41-year-old Dr Stephen Ukenna was arrested on March 11 after the parent of the 17 year old student lodged complaint about his alleged dastardly act at Ota area command of the Nigeria Police.
The parent of the alleged rape victim was said to have reported that their daughter called them on phone from the school that she was invited by the lecturer to his office on the said date under the pretence that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her being a close friend.
The statement reads “that, however on getting to the lecturer’s office, he locked the office door and forcefully had sex with her on top of the table in his office.
“Upon the report, the Area Commander Ota, ACP Muyideen Obe swiftly deployed his JWC team to the school where the lecturer was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim, but was unable to give any reason for his action.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
