Ogun: Herbalist rapes 17-year-old during consultation, threatens her with death

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command said they have arrested a herbalist, Samson Ogundele for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old girl (name withheld) who came to his house for consultation.

According to the statement from the Spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Samson was said to have been arrested on Wednesday 27th of July 2022, at Referefu area of Oja Odan in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state after the victim reported the suspect at Oja Odan Divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police.

He added that the victim reported that she is an hairdressing apprentice, and that a sum of N1000 got missing in their shop which made all the nine apprentices in the shop to consult the herbalist to know who stole the money among them.

Oyeyemi explained that the victim narrated further that when they got to the herbalist’s home, he started calling them into a room one after the other after collecting N700 from them.

The State Police Spokesman added, “The complainant stated further that the first and second persons entered and came out, and when it was her turn, she entered and the herbalist tried to rape her.

“Acting on her complaint, the Divisional Police Officer, Oja Odan, CSP Gabriel Ikechukwu, detailed detectives to go after the suspect and he was arrested.

“It was while interrogating him that one of the girls who is 17-years old confessed that the herbalist had already had carnal knowledge of her when she met him at the consulting room.

“She stated further that the herbalist threatened that she will die if she informs anybody.”

Oyeyemi said the victim was immediately taken to General Hospital Oja Odan where the doctor on duty confirmed that the girl has been defiled.

He stated that the herbalist has confessed to the commission of the crime.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
